Dr Greg Hawkridge
Dr Greg Hawkridge Research Associate, Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge Greg is a mechatronic engineer who joined the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) in April 2019 as part of the Digital Manufacturing on a Shoestring project. This project is investigating how low-cost and off-the-shelf technologies and software can be leveraged to help SMEs embrace the benefits of digitalisation. As part of this project, Greg is focussing on developing a system architecture that facilitates simple integration of new components and is able to grow with the SME. Greg’s research interests lie in the area of digital manufacturing, specifically focussing on ICT architectures that allow for flexibility and reconfiguration. Prior to joining DIAL, Greg obtained his PhD at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, where he investigated the implementation of standby redundancy in the context of holonic manufacturing control using both the Erlang/OTP platform and the JADE software framework for multi-agent systems.
